The House

Smith & Striker is an independent studio producing works and first-generation pieces.
The House defines the standards, processes, and constraints that govern how the work is made and released.

the standard

The standard is applied uniformly across every piece, regardless of category or price. All work passes final inspection before release. Output is governed by inspection capacity rather than volume targets. Inspection determines whether work proceeds, is reworked, or withdrawn.

process

Work begins with an initiating idea or material question. Once fabrication starts, decisions are governed by process rather than intent. Each piece moves through forming, joining, refinement, finishing, and inspection. Adjustments are made in response to the material during fabrication rather than forcing uniform outcomes.

Materials & finish

Materials are selected for structural integrity, wear resistance, and long-term stability. Finishes are chosen to support durability rather than visual uniformity.

Surfaces, edges, and settings are evaluated by hand. Pieces that do not meet inspection standards are reworked or removed from release.

Some materials and finishes are intentionally excluded.

output

Smith & Striker operates without seasonal pressure or volume targets. Work is released as it is completed, based on what the studio can oversee directly. Output is constrained by time, process, and inspection capacity. Designs are tracked as studio works so decisions can be revisited, refined, or retired with intention.

Studio Works

Studio Works are designs intended for continued production. Forms are revisited, refined, and adjusted over time without compromising the original standard.

experimental works

Experimental Works are first-generation designs and form studies. Produced as singular works or limited studies, with no obligation to refine, repeat, or continue.

Everyday Goods

Everyday Goods are utility items produced in small runs for daily use. Separate from core studio work.

ownership

These objects are made to be worn, used, and kept.
Restoration is preferred over replacement.

Process notes and studio observations are recorded in the Journal.
