The Studio
Smith & Striker is an independent jewelry and craft studio founded on careful craftsmanship.
The studio exists to make useful objects with care, patience, and attention to lasting quality. Jewelry is the primary craft, but the workshop itself remains the constant. As the studio grows into other disciplines, every piece is expected to meet the same standard before it leaves the bench.
the standard
Every piece is held to the same standard, regardless of its size, category, or price. Each work is inspected before release, and anything that does not meet that standard is refined, remade, or set aside.
The studio does not measure its work by volume. Pieces are released when they are ready, allowing the time and attention each one requires.
the workshop
Every piece begins and ends at the same bench.
The tools are maintained rather than replaced. Storage changes as the work requires it. Materials remain close at hand. Over time, the workshop develops alongside the work itself.
process
Every piece begins with an idea, a question, or a material worth exploring. As the work develops, the process and the material guide the decisions that shape the final piece. Each work moves through forming, joining, refinement, finishing, and inspection, with adjustments made along the way rather than forcing every piece into the same outcome.

Materials
Materials are chosen for their ability to age well, withstand use, and develop character over time. Finishes are developed to support the material rather than conceal it.
Every surface, edge, and setting is inspected by hand. Pieces that do not meet the standard return to the bench for further work or are set aside.
Some materials and finishes are excluded because they do not support the life of the piece.

The work
Smith & Striker does not work around seasonal releases or volume goals. Pieces are released when they are complete and when the studio has given them the attention they require.
Designs are kept as studio works so they can be revisited, refined, continued, or retired with intention over time.
Studio Works
Studio Works are designs that remain part of the studio’s ongoing work. Forms are revisited, refined, and adjusted over time while maintaining the original standard.
experimental works
Experimental Works are first explorations of new forms, materials, and ideas. Created as singular works or limited studies, they allow the studio to explore without the expectation of continuation.
Everyday Goods
Everyday Goods are accessible items created from Smith & Striker designs. They exist separately from core studio work and are produced outside the studio’s primary craft practice.
ownership
These pieces are made with the expectation that they will be used, cared for, and kept.
When possible, restoration is preferred over replacement to preserve both the piece and the history it carries.
